About Pilates

Long, Toned and Lean Body

Pilates is a form of exercises which emphasizes the core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movements. Pilates is not meant to build up muscles but it does focus on toning and strengthening your muscles.  Pilates creates a long, toned and lean body. Athletes and dancers love it, as do seniors, women with pre/post natal needs, and people at various stages of physical rehabilitation. All exercises can be modified to provide a workout that is safe and yet challenging for a person at any level.

Core Strength

Core strength is the foundation of Pilates exercise. The core muscles are the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement. As you develop your core strength, you will develop stability throughout your entire torso which will lead to a better posture create a taller, leaner look.  By focusing on the core of the body, this is why so many doctors refer patients and recommend Pilates to help overcome back pain.
